OK, that's my lounge answer. Obviously Hearst Castle, garish but cool. I mean, you're going to have views all along the way but enjoy the views of Big Sur while having lunch at the Nepenthe restaurant in Big Sur and if you were ever into Jack Kerouac that area below the Bixby bridge was the setting for his book "Big Sur" (which I think is his best) but not a stop.

Kinda eying some of the same stuff eg national parks, maybe take a boat to the channel islands?
